Lync 2010 Phone number normalization

Hi,

We're having a bit of trouble with lync / phone normalization and or phone numbers in general.

Lync is importing phone numbers from active directory, which is fine, we'd also like to be able to use the 'Save my lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on exchange server' as this allows activesync users to import the entire active directory (or at least lync enabled AD) list of users / phone numbers to their mobile.

The trouble is the phone format.

In AD we have uk telephone numbers in the following format: +44 (0)1273 123456

On lync contact cards this shows as: +4401273123456

and so in phones it appears the same, the trouble is the number needs to be +44 OR 0 at the beginning, having both makes it unusable.

So i thought that's fine, if lync sees the number as +4401273123456 i can apply a rule to it to remove the first 4 digits (+440) and prefix +44, i've tried this in the wizard under voice routing, and/or under Company_Phone_number_Normalization_rules.txt using:

^\+440(\d{10})$

+44$1

this doesn't produce the desired effect. The gui suggests it should with this number: +4401273123456 produce +441273123456, however once that normalization is applied and Cs-UpdateAddressBook is applied (and the required wait 5 minutes, remove galcontacts files from the client and force them to update address book) the contact card instead simply shows the number as: +44 (0)1273 123456

I really need assistance with this as i can't seem to solve it and have spent a few days doing it.
