Lync is unable to find employees using search function

$

We have bought Office 365 from Microsoft & hosting mailboxes at Microsoft's data center + using Lync.

Since last 5~6 days, users are unable to find employees using search option in Lync. Also photos of employees are no more displaying. This issue is affecting more than 50 users so on I guess it's not an issue of individual PC. I tried reconfiguring Office 365,rebooting PC but no use.

Raised ticket to Microsoft but response is too slow.

Amey.

Lync Clients do not show Phone numbers

$

To make a short story long, we are not getting phone numbers (4-digit extensions) for users to show up in Lync client on the PC. Here's what we've done so far:

  • Verified that phone number is in AD for each user.
  • Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt set up on both Lync Standard edition frontend servers. Normalization is working correctly.
  • Checked certificates, look like they're installed correctly.
  • Ran ABServer.exe -testphonenorm with no errors.
  • Ran Update-CsUserDatabase and Update-CsAddressbook on server, no errors.
  • Completely removed and reset address book on client (deleted GAL**** files). Still not showing up.

A weird scenario. We actually got SOME clients to show all the contact info for the users, including their phone number....and then it's back to being blank. I'm just not sure where else to go with this. Is there a way for us to view the actual information in the Lync address book? Some way to export or display it?

I install Lync Server 2010 and install Lync 2010 for client PC, but Lync client error "Cannot Sync Address Book". If I on server run command Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -AddressBookAvailability WebSearchOnly  Lync client without error but if search user "Address Book Server is experiencing issues". I try test with Test-CsAddressBookService and take error "No response received for Web-Ticket service". If I on server run command Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -AddressBookAvailability FileDownloadOnly Lync client error "Cannot Sync Address Book" but on server with lync share no traffic from client (check with Wireshark), I try to change permission to lync share (everyone Share and Security perm) but no traffic from client.

I check Event Viewer and find errors

Grouping Address Book on Lync

Hello Everyone,

My management came up with this weird idea to me a few days ago. I am still searching and searching and I don't think this is doable but I just want to get your opinions maybe one of you did this before.

We have 3 different companies which are included in our GAL on Exchange. My manager wants to have 3 different groups for each company while he is seaching a contact on his Lync client. Let's say that we have Company A, B and C so before he searches a contact, he wants to choose let's say Company A and then search a contact from there.

Or another option is that if we can make a group just as we have in an Outlook client. If I open my Outlook addressbook, I see these;

All Contacts
All Global Address Lists
All Users etc.

I don't know if it is possible to group lists just like this on a Lync client or telephone.

By the way we user Lync Server 2010, Exchange Server 2010 and HP 4120 IP Phones.

Thanks in advanced.

Regards..

DP.

I subscribe to Lync Online with Plan 2. I am an independent contractor and work out of my home. When I attempt to engage with a business contact he is showing as Presence Unknown. I need help in understanding how to use Lync for my clients for things like IM and Video conferencing. Also, all the training is for the Windows version is there MAC training out there?

Multiple work numbers in Lync client Contacts

$

I have seen several people with this issue, but I have not been able to get this resolved.

I have the users phone numbers updated in AD in the following format:

I have the phone numbers in AD in the following format +1XXXXXXXXXX

I have an address book policy that basically leaves the number as is as the default normalization rules were showing the number in the following format xxx-xxx-xxxx

\+1(\d{10})
+1$1

When I look at the contact card, each contact is showing 2 work numbers

one in the following format +1xxxxxxxxxx (this number works when dialing from the client - dialing rules)

and a second one in the following xxx-xxx-xxxx (this number does not work just due to the dialing rules)

I am not sure how I can get rid of the second number from showing in the contacts

I should mention that the phone number uri in the users lync is in the following format xxxxxxx

We are integrating with an older PBX to route the calls.  This is working but I do want to get rid of that second contact number...

I am not sure what to try now.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Lync 2010 client contact card does not show translated numbers

Hi there. We have an issue at customer site with the AD number normalization. The numbers in the AD have different formats like four digits eg 4321 and mobile phone 0612345678 these numbers are normalized to +31235xx4321 and +31612345678 but this is not shown in the Lync client contact card as shown in the following printscreen

Actions taken:
Created “Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt” in share “\1-WebServices-1\ABFiles” and created the following rules:

^0(6\d{8})$
+31$1
##
^(4\d{3})$
+3123511$1

When we do a test with Abserver.exe -TestPhoneNorm "0612345678" numbers are normalized as expected.

D:\Programs\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Server\Core>Abserver.exe -testphonenorm "
0612345678"
args[1]: 0612345678
0612345678 -> tel:+31612345678
Matching Rule in Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt on line 6
        ^^0(6\d{8})$$
--
D:\Programs\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Server\Core>Abserver.exe -TestPhoneNorm "
4572"
args[1]: 4572
4572 -> tel:+31235xx4572
Matching Rule in Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt on line 12
        ^^(4\d{3})$$

After that we do
- Update-CsUserDatabase
- Update-CsUserAddressbook
- Check “Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt” if numbers are normalized.
- Close the Lync client deleted the files “GalContacts.db” and “GalContacts.db.idx” and start the Lync client to force update.

For some time we see the numbers in the Lync client contact card as expected but after log out en log back in the numbers are back in original state.

When we make a dump of the addressbook with “abserver –dumpfile” you see the numbers are there.

What could be the reason why the numbers in the Lync Client are not shown as E164?

Issue with Address Book

So I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot, but this is what I'm seeing:

At least 1 user has information in the Lync contact card that is out of date.  The person's office phone number was updated in Active Directory over a week ago, but the number in Lync still shows the old number.  If I look at the Address Book within Outlook, it shows the new number.  I tried redownloading the address book files (by deleting the old ones) on my Lync client but it is still showing the old number.  Running Update-CsAddressBook did not help either.

When trying to do a search on a Lync Phone edition device I'm getting "Incomplete results.  Please search later."  It does seem like there is something wrong with the address book, but I'm not really sure what?

Web search only, and number normalization

Hi,

I have enabled the web Search for one test user, and found the following problem:

When user type the phone number 0123456789, the Lync will normalise the number to "+358123456789" but no contacts can be found.

When user type the phone number +358123456789, the Lync founds the contact.

When using the GAL search, both formats find correct contact.

Is this something that Lync client send to the Web Search the number I have typed, and not the number which is normalized?

Lync client show "Lync Call" button even for Audio/video disabled user

$

Hi,

I see something strange in the Lync client (2010 & 2013)

I created some users with audio/video disabled.

In their lync client, they can do only im and mail. OK

But for an entreprise voice enabled user, if he searches an audio/video disabled user on address book, he still have the "Lync Call" button ! If he uses it, he has  a failed call. For me, this button should not appear for users without audio function enabled.

Have you a tip for hide the button?

Add new OC field name to address book

Hello,

I have users that work in multiple offices in different states.  I entered both work numbers into the AD telephone number attributes.  In lync the user's work numbers are displayed as "work" (xxx) xxx-xxxx and "other" (xxx) xxx-xxxx.  I would like the 2nd work number to be displayed as "work 2" rather than "other".  Is this possible?  Thank you.

Lync 2010 Multitenant Pack TenantID issue with Address Book

Hi, <o:p></o:p>

I have a problem with the Lync 2010 Multitenant
Pack. I have some users in Lync that are not included in the Address Book. On
the FrontEnd Server I get the following error:<o:p></o:p>

A Tenant ID attribute value was changed, deleted, or
added for an existing user in the database. Resolve the conflict by restoring
the original value or deleting the user from AD.<o:p></o:p>

The DN of the user whose Tenant ID value User
Replicator tried to replicate is:<o:p></o:p>

CN=Testuser ****,OU=OU1,OU=OCS
Tenants,DC=domain,DC=local<o:p></o:p>

This update came from domain:<o:p></o:p>

Domain.local<o:p></o:p>

Cause: Typically caused by manual modification of
msRTCSIP-TenantId attribute value instead of using management tools<o:p></o:p>

Resolution:<o:p></o:p>

Restore the original value of msRTCSIP-TenantId
attribute or delete the user from AD. You may use Dbanalyze to diagnose the
problem.<o:p></o:p>

I have created Tenant and Grouping ID with the
powershell as explained in the official document. Just tried to disable and
re-enable the user. Also disabled lync user, deleted the attributes in AD, set
the attributes with PowerShell, enabled user -> no success. Has anyone a
solution?

Greetings<o:p></o:p>

Event 21034 - LS Address Book Server - Normalization Search

$

There is plenty of information out there regarding Normalization and modifying things so that this error isn't received.  The question I have is I would like to find the user(s) that don't follow the E.164 convention however if I look at the text file - Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers -  I see:

Unmatched number: User: 'ed3e7368-fcd6-4280-bfa5-aa5a5acbe430'  AD Attribute: 'telephoneNumber'  Number:'xxxxxxxxxx@txt.att.net'
Unmatched number: User: 'dc65786c-125a-44ba-a369-462f3a13cb65'  AD Attribute: 'telephoneNumber'  Number:'xxxxxxxxxx@txt.att.net'

I've done a few searches for Telephone Number and putting in the "number" listed however it doesn't find anything.  Is there an easy way of finding out what object has that information assigned to it without having to search all of AD for a particular string?

Thanks!

Lync Contact Search not showing all users.

$

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum, I am having an issue with the Contact Search in Lync not showing the correct users in the search results.

I currently have clients set to query the server correctly for Contact Searches (i.e., not download the addressbook to their local client).

Say for instance I have the following users;

Robert, J

Smith, Rob

Robertson, Davis

Note: The format of our AD entries are all "Lastname, FirstName".

I would expect that when I start entering "Ro" in the Lync Search box that all three would turn up, however only 1 will, the other ones I need to type in either their last name first, account name or even their whole first name?

We are only using Lync for IM and Presence right now, so I don't think any of the phone normalization rules?  Or are these taken into account under the hood regardless?

Thank you.

Greg

How to delete "Lync Contacts" in Outlook 2013?

Hi,

I'm using Lync 2013 and outlook 2013, the backend system is Exchange Server 2013 and Lync Server 2010.

I found that in Outlook 2013 People tab, there's a "Lync Contacts" folder under "My Contacts", which is created by Lync 2010 client enabled by option "Save my Lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on Exchange", and when I want to delete any contact under "Lync Contacts", a pop-up windows displayed and said: you cannot make changes to contents of this read-only folder.

I reinstalled Lync 2010 client back, and check the option "Save my Lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on Exchange" is not selected.

So, anyone can tell me how to delete the "Lync Contacts"?

OCS 2007 R2 SIP address not searchable...Single user

Have a user that is not searchable in OCS by his SIP address ( 1st name, last name ). He is discoverable by the full email address. Strange thing is in our Web Client, he
is searchable by the SIP address. He is the only user that has been reported with this issue with over 1k users in our environment. The affected user is able to resolve any name by the SIP address.

The file has been copied to \ABFiles folder, the Update-CsAddressBookcommand was run time after time without any success.
I followed the steps as outlined here:

http://blog.schertz.name/2010/09/lync-2010-address-book-normalization/

Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt entries list errors like:

Unmatched number: User: 'sip:AlHas@mab.intra'  AD Attribute: 'ipPhone'  Number: '206'

When running ABServer -dumpRules only the default Lync rules are shown.

I ran the Lync logging tool but no error are shown.
