Cannot open database "RtcAb" requested by the login

I’m working with a migration of Lync from OCS and I get this error on the Lync FE server:

Address Book Web Service failed to initialize
Exception: Cannot open database "RtcAb" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user '[Domain]\[server]$'.
Cause: Unexpected exception occurred during initialization.

It seems that this has to do with the capital letters in the database name. The database has the name “rtcab” with small letters. Since it’s case sensitive I cannot login in and I’m not able to sync GAL to the server or to the clients. Is there a solution for this problem that doesn’t involve reinstalling everything?

Problem with failover BackEnd Lync 2010

Hi,

We use a lync 2010 entreprise edition. We have a cluster of 2 Back-END.

But when one of them crashes, sometimes, we lose the connectivity to the adress book for 10 minutes on lync client. The sql services is ok after 5 seconds, but not the client.

We need to restart the client (or to delete cache files) to be more reactive.

Is-it normal? I don't find anything on it?

Thanks

Also Is there a way to clear AD attribute 'msRTCSIP-OriginatorSID' for particular users in the OC?

We have about 3000 users in the OU and wants to clear this attribute for 1500 users and keep it for 1500 users.

MUCH THANKS.

This is for Lync Server 2013

Hi,

My organization are having some issues with phone numbers replicating from AD to Lync 2013.  Up to 2 weeks ago this worked fine no issues, all of a sudden it just stopped.  The AD field we use is telephoneNumber.  There is nothing obvious in the logs etc.  It looks like normalisation is disabled/set to false.  When trying to verify the topology there are errors see below.  Is it possible that someone changed the share permissions on the LyncAddressShare folder, could this be causing the issue.  There was one other thing.  I changed my title on AD and after deleting my sip folder locally this replicated no issue.  Any suggestions would be very helpful

Warning: Unable to access share permissions for "\\XXXXXXXXXXXXXX\LyncAddressShare". This is expected if you are not an administrator on the file server, or if this is a Distributed File System (DFS) share. UM Telephone Numbers not replicating to all users

Good Morning/Evening all,

I currently have MS Lync 2010 4.0.7577 installed, everything is working perfectly for most people.

Certain people will use the Lync search feature to find a contact, when that contact is located they attempt to use the telephone function but it dosent work, the telephone number is now shown in their information.

But for example, when that end users colleague searches for that same person, they are able to find view and telephone that same person.

We currently use a Cisco CM server, I'm not sure where to start with this, i have done AD syncs on the cisco server and this still hasnt resolve the issue.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hassan.

Lync auto created Contacts in Outlook

We run Lync internally and have everyone using Lync client on their workstation. By default Lync seems to automatically create an Outlook contact for users who they have added to their contact list in Lync, or have had Lync conversations with, not sure exactly. Those contacts in Outlook seem to get updated as the AD account information changes. My question is that when a user leaves the company will those contacts in outlook be automatically removed? It causes issues when you search in Lync for John and you have multiple John's in the company, some who have left, they appear to still be listed, but they are listed because you have them in your Outlook contact which Lync put there in the first place.

I hope that when you delete a user from AD and remove their Lync account that the contact that Lync created in Outlook would be deleted, but I am not sure if that is what actually happens. Anyone know for sure?

External client cannot download address book

After reading through a ton of articles here on this forum I have managed to get Lync 2010 server deployed and working except for 2 remaining issues.

1. external Lync client cannot download address book files

2. external lync phons cannot download address book files, cannot send log files, cannot download firmware updates

All other features of Lync are working perfectly.  External users can make calls, audio/video chat, everything one would expect.

I have run test-csaddressbookservice with the -external switch and it indicates failure.  The output is below (actual domain name replaced with "domain")

TargetUri  : https://frontend.domain.com:443/abs/handler

TargetFqdn : frontend.domain.local

ld be due to the fact that the server certificate is not configure

d properly with HTTP.SYS in the HTTPS case. This could also be cau

sed by a mismatch of the security binding between the client and t

             he server.

Our internal domain is structured with .local for internal and .com external.  Our front end is published through Forefront Threat Management Gateway.  The certificate assigned to Forefront is structured as follows:

This certificate was issued by godaddy.

Common Name - frontend.domain.com

Subject alternate names:

dialin.domain.com , dialin.domain.local , meet.domain.com , meet.domain.local

Using a web browser from the external side of the network I can browse to https://frontend.domain.com/abs/handler BUT the browser informs me that there is an issue with the certificate. Any help would be most welcome and I will certainly mark helpful answers!

Hide/display specific contacts

Hi all,

We use Exchange 2007 and Lync 2010. We have two contacts with similar names

1. first one is a resource Calendar account
2. Normal user Account.

I would like to

1. Hide the Resource calendar account from Lync and only visible in Outlook addressbook
2. Hide the Normal user logon account from Outlook Addressbook and visible only in Lync as this is a generic account only used for a single purpose and need not be availabe in Outlook Address book.

Can this be done? If yes,  how do I go about achieving this?

How to take Lync Active users list from Lync 2010 Server.?

When typing a number, user displayname not being showed (address book)

Hi all

Im using Lync 2010 with all users with this number format:
tel:+34944567890;ext=XXXX
or
tel:+3494456XXXX;ext=XXXX

I've set up some normalization rules in the dial plan to normalize this way:
XXXX -> +3494456XXXX;ext=XXXX
94456XXXX -> +3494456XXXX;ext=XXXX
+3494456XXXX -> +3494456XXXX;ext=XXXX

Phone calls are working correctly but when dialing or searching a number it only shows the +3494456XXXX in the lync client (phone or computer).
After applying http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2735322/en-us it shows the extension: +3494456XXXX;ext=XXXX

Ok, but now im trying to make it show the user name solving it with the address book information.

In the active directory, an user with the "Telephone number" field value: 4141

In the Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file:

(4141)
+34944564141;ext=4141

Forced address book rebuild on server and regeneration on my lync client.
When typing 4141 on my lync client still showing
+34944564141;ext=4141
but no trace of the DisplayName.

Am i doing something wrong?

Thanks all!

OCS 2007 R2 Client synchronize errors

$

Hello I have been receiving the following error message when I log into my OCS 2007 R2. I am still able to see my users, but I am not able to search for new users who are added to AD.

Cannot synchronize with the corporate address book because the file could not be found.

I do however see users whom I have added previously:

I have performed the following steps:

Deleted my GALContacts.DB from C:\Users\user.company\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Communicator\sip_user@company.com, but I have waited couple days now and it is not downloading the newest DB.

I then navigated to HKCU\software\policies\Microsoft and did not find a 'communicator' folder so I created one manually and set the GalDownloadInitialDelay to 0. and waited hours, but did didn't help. I still don't have the galcontacts.db in my sip_user.company.com folder.

On the server when I put in the https://server.local\Abs\Ext\Handler then I get page not found.

When I open IIS and navigate to the abs folder it is set to application user pass-through.

I am confused and I don't know what else to do. I could really use some help!

Unable to expand DG is Lync client - Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown.

Hi,

I have a user in our Hong Kong office that is unable to open a distribution group she has added to her Groups. She gets the error message "Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown. Contact your support team to investigate."

I can add the group and expand it, so can some of her colleague, and some cannot. Her colleagues who can have the same client and global policy settings as she does.

I read in a similar thread that this could be resolved by confirming the server times on Lync, AD (domain controller checked and Exchange but they were all correct and in sync.

The global policy is set to 250 max contacts - but does a DL count as 1 contact, or does it count all the people within the DG? I am getting HK to confirm she does not have too many contacts but I dont think this is the issue.

Anyone else come across this issue?

Every month some of the users are leaving and joining the company. So when users are leaving the company, we need to disable the account manual on the server which always time consuming. I would like to automat this to disable through script or command

Import AD groups as contacts?

$

Hi,

We have four offices and have just installed Lync Online and synced with our AD. I'd like to automatically import our AD users so that they end up in the correct group (one group per office) for every users Lync installation. I understand Lync has no control of this and that 3rd party products are necessary. So I'd be happy for suggestions of which 3rd party product that I should look at.

Cheers,

Mats

Adding additional information to contact cards for distribution groups

$

Hello everyone,

My company is using M365 and a lot of our users use Lync to communicate to eachother as well as lookup contact information via the contact cards. I was wondering if there is a way to add additional contact info to a contact card for distribution groups. For example, if we have an IT@ distribution group and someone searches for that via Lync, they can see the email address and its recipients, but we'd like to maybe display a general IT contact phone number as well. Is this something that is doable?

Look forward to hearing from everyone.

Thanks!

Communicator 2007 R2 users unable to sync address book after Lync 2013 install

$

last week we went live with a coexistance platform for lync 2013  our setup is as follows

OCS 2007 R2 Standard, no edge servers

Lync 2013 enterprise pool with two servers, also with no edge servers

we currently are hosting no external services through lync of OCS.  Since going live some users have reported that they can not access the GAL through OCS.  The one Mac user can not access the GAL either.  however they can still look up un-normalized information by entering someones full SIP address.  All users who are currently testing Lync are able to access the GAL without any problems.  this so far has only affected the OCS user population and only about five of 250 users have reported it so far but i can recreate the issue with a new user every time.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  everything i'm finding is referring to lync users not being able to access teh address book.
