Hi Tech's,
Couple of users facing the similar issue with lync login where the search does not work .
It pops with the login credentials where i cannot edit the first and second field.
When entered with password. It kicks back to the same login credentials screen.
What i have tried is .
Tried reinstalling lync 2010 64bit and added oct 2013 cumulative update.
Need your help to rectify
I'm having trouble getting phone numbers to consisntently appear on our Lync clients. We have Lync Server 2010 and both 2010 and 2013 clients.
It appears that after I set up a normalization rule, all of the 2010 clients started working. The phone numbers show up in the correct format and all updated numbers get pulled from AD. I'm having mixed results with the 2013 clients.
Every new install of a 2013 client (both on Win7 & 8) works. On my personal computer, when I first set it up with Win 8 and office 2013, I was able to see all of the phone numbers in Lync. One day it just quit working. So far there is (1) PC with Win8 and Lync 2013 that works, and (3) with Win8 and Lync 2013 that don't work. It seems like the normalization file does nothing for these. When the file is active, more numbers show up, but it's not 100%.
I've tried repairing the office installation and removing the antivirus program. If I run the Lync 2010 client on the same machine, everything works fine. It seems to point to an issue with 2013 client, but I can't quite say that for sure.
Does anyone smarter than me care to suggest something? Thanks,
We keep our CUCM-style telephone numbers in the AD ipPhone attribute. The format is 000-0000.
I have added a normalization rule to Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt to make these E.164-ish and to add a prefix (3) that we use to route calls from Lync to CUCM.
Testing both with abserver.exe and observing a trace, the rule is being applied correctly.
args[1]: 824-2072
824-2072 -> tel:+38242072
Matching Rule in Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt on line 19
^(8\d{6})$
Component: ABServer
Function: Contact.AddAttribute
(ABServer,Contact.AddAttribute:contact.cs(317))(0000000036D00C4F)Id: 13 Name: ipPhone Value: tel:+38242072
However, I still don't see this +38242072 in the contact card. I tried looking in the rtcab.dbo.AbAttributeValue table and I also don't see any ipPhone (ID 13) values there.
I looked in absconfig.exe and the "Include phone number value that is currently present in AD for the phone attributes" option is selected (first choice).
Should I instead be using "Use normalization rules and include normalized number"?
Dear all,
Currently we have Lync Server 2010 setup. We got no problem with the server.
But the issue comes on the client side. We used Office Communicator R2 v3.5.6907.253 on Windows 7 PC. The GAL database cannot be downloaded and synchronized for weeks. Even after we set the GAL initial download delay to 0.
There is error message on OC, saying:
"Cannot synchronize with the corporate address book. This may be because the proxy server setting in your web browser does not allow access to the address book"
We do use proxy on IE, but we have by pass the lynx server address.
I believe there is no problem in synchronization between lync server and AD, because i have tried to install lync client on one of the PC, and the address book can be synchronized perfectly within hour.
Anyone has suggestion what may be the cause and solution for this? We would like to stick with OC as client, no intention to replace it with lync.
Thanks!
I hope this is an Easy question for someone to answer. In OCS our numbers displayed as (123) 123-1234 x1234
from what I've been reading on Lync phone numbers entered into Active directory like this will be changed to a normalized E.164 standard. Is there a way to Make Lync display the non-normalized (888) 888-8888 x1234 numbers on the contact cards instead of the normalized "+88888888881234" number?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Beer
I have updated the address book in server using Update-CsAddressBook command and it was success but it is not updating on users machine, i have done the registry entry.
reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator /v GalDownloadInitialDelay /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
But still it is not working giving below error.
cannot synchronize with the corporate address book. this may be because the proxy server settings in your web browser does not allow the access address book. if problem continues, please contact your support team.

I have a user that is unable to add contacts to his list. When he tries to add someone he gets the following message : Cannot add, move, or remove contacts or groups at this time. Please try again later.
I have found another post with someone having similar problem that was resolved by sign-out and in a few times and rebooting the PC but that did not work for him. I have also tried to log in via another computer like it was suggested in the other post but that did not fix the issue either.
Anyone has any idea on what I could do to resolve this.
Thanks
Hi there, I am in the middle of upgrading our Mac environment to Lync 2011 14.0.7 with Hotfix (140123) however, I'm having some difficulties with our Lync clients not being able to perform searches of users using the friendly name of the user. Searching only appears to work if a full e-mail address is specified.
I checked my sip_username@domain.com which is created in Documents\Microsoft User Data\Microsoft Lync Data\ and my account is missing the GalContacts.db, GalContacts.db.idx and GalContactsDelta.db. This is a fresh install
and it was working on my machine prior to the fresh reinstall of the OS and applications. I am currently running Lync 2011 14.0.7 (140123) on Mavericks 10.9.2.
I have checked 14.0.6 on a fresh Mavericks 10.9.2 machine as well, with the same account it does not function properly. I asked another user to check their upgraded Mavericks install with Lync 14.0.5 and he is able to put
a user's first or last name into the search field and search data will get returned, so I know that if there is an existing GALContacts.db results will be returned but any new installs never have this offline address book cache created and I'm afraid that
existing offline address books contain data that is only as current as the last pull before migrating a user to Mavericks.
Hello,
We have two email addreses, on the company, but just one is used for the Lync.
When we migrated to Outlook 2013 and Lync 2013, the contacts on the Lync, apparently merged, and now it give us "Presence Unknown."
Any ideas?
I have semi-successfully federated our on-premises sip domain (companysip.com) with our Lync Online sip domain (company.com). Lync Online users are able to IM and see the presence of on-premise users without issue. Same can be said about on-premises users being able to IM and see the presence of Lync Online users, however there is an odd issue with this.
During address book synchronization on an on-premises user, I'm able to enter in John.Doe@company.com and double click their name to bring up the IM window. Then the IM window will populate with their presence and what not. Also able to add them into my contacts.
However once the address book has synchronized, then when I search for John.Doe@company.com the contact comes up as a phone number only.
Any insight into this issue would be great.
Hi,
There is a contact group in each Lync and Outlook. Can these be mutually shared?
In other word. I created a contact group in outlook.than created another group in lync.
Now it is possible to use the group created in outlook to be used in Lync.
or
Now it is possible to use the group created in lync to be used in Outlook.
Hi
We are having a weird issue some of the users have outlook contacts saved which are not in the AD and they used to be able to place the name of the contact in lync and it will give them the option to call the phone or mobile device. But all of a sudden this stopped working the contact still pops up but no phone numbers but other outlook contacts work properly. And this is not for every user in the company some still work perfectly
thanks i know it sounds confusing
Hi,
I'm using Lync 2013 and outlook 2013, the backend system is Exchange Server 2013 and Lync Server 2010.
I found that in Outlook 2013 People tab, there's a "Lync Contacts" folder under "My Contacts", which is created by Lync 2010 client enabled by option "Save my Lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on Exchange", and when I want to delete any contact under "Lync Contacts", a pop-up windows displayed and said: you cannot make changes to contents of this read-only folder.
I reinstalled Lync 2010 client back, and check the option "Save my Lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on Exchange" is not selected.
So, anyone can tell me how to delete the "Lync Contacts"?
What is normal behavior - out of the box - for Lync 2010 and/or 2013 for the Lync Client search. Is it to return all AD objects (or all GAL objects?) regardless if they are Lync enabled or not? There is a bit of information here an there on this but thought I'd post my specific question to end my torture.
We are in the process of migrating users from 2010 to 2013 (backend) and we initially setup the msRTC-GroupingID to limit our search but with this migration we are planning to clear this attribute to allow a search to return all users and I notice that in doing so I see all objects reqardless if Lync enabled or not. This is not so desirable but if it's the way it works then I will have accept and move on. I read about using ABSconfig to alter this behavior but for some reason this won't even run for me ... crashes right away upon opening running from FE server so even if I now got it to work my trust is shot for using this.
Thanks all ...
