I am having some issues with Lync address book. It's not updating all Lync clients (some clients are updated). I got the below error message.

Log Name:      Lync Server
Source:        LS Address Book Server
Date:          5/11/2012 10:01:15 AM
Event ID:      21034
Task Category: (1008)
Level:         Warning

User:          N/A
Computer:      ABC
Description:
One or more phone numbers failed to normalize.

3800 total numbers failed to normalize.  They are listed in the text file: '\\LyncShare\1-WebServices-1\ABFiles\00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt'
abser
Cause: One or more phone number attributes in Active Directory contained text that could not be normalized.  Normalization rules are contained in the optional Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file located in the output location or in the generic rules built into Address Book Server.  Refer to the documentation for a description of the built-in generic normalization rules.  Use the ABServer -dumpRules command to see all the rules that Address Book Server is currently configured with.
Resolution:
Either create a Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file in the output location and make sure it covers all cases found in your Active Directory deployment or fix the invalid phone number(s) in the Active Directory record(s).
Event Xml:

Why GAL not available

Hi!

Is it possible in Lync 2013 Client to have Exchange 2010 GAL appear automatically?

Thanks.

Lync client can't fetch the address book files

Hi,

We have 3 FE Lync 2010 servers. All the clients are giving an error "cannot synchronize with the corporate address book".

I can access Internal Web services URL and download the AB file.  I have also made an entry for Lync Internal web services in the host file and signed into the Lync. Then the client was able to download the Address book files successfully. Any ideas to resolve this.?

Thank you !

Address Book Normalization Rules are failing

Most of the phone numbers in AD are in E.164 format, but there are some that have not yet been converted. To correct this, I added the following normalization rule to the Address Book directory.

## Normalize 10-digit phone number patterns from Active Directory into +E.164
##
(\d{10})
+1$1

However, I am still getting a warning about failures when the Address Book update runs every night. Here is an example error:

Unmatched number: User: '78251e79-52e6-4624-bfa9-2308a8891f8a'  AD Attribute: 'telephoneNumber'  Number: '212-555-1212'

I was told by a co-worker that to do this I need to "Go into the lync forums and create a thread requesting activation for your name and employee ID. They will do the rest."

Is there a forum here that I do this?

Lync 2010 Contact Card/Address Book not updating

Hi All,

I'm running Lync 2010 CU April 2014. I'm having an issue at present where changes made to user objects in AD are not being replicated in the address book. If i make a change to a user object (title or telephone for example) then run update-csuserdatabase. Once I see that the update has happened via event log, if I then use the DBImpExp.exe tool to extract the data for the user in question none of the fields have updated. Can anyone point me to where I can further troubleshoot, as there are no errors reported in event logs etc. Also noting I have run a packet capture on the FE and can see that the detail returned from the LDAP queries is the correct updated information, it seems the process is breaking down between getting the detail from LDAP and updating the database.

Contact card showing differently based on device used

We are using Lync 2103 full client through O365.  On my desktop computer running Windows 7, the contact card populates all information for the user.  On a Surface Pro running Windows 8, the contact card is missing information like Work phone #, View Source, Bldg, and Title. It seems like on the Surface Pro, Lync is not obtaining information from SharePoint. Any thoughts on this?  It appears to be this way for all Surface Pro's. Not sure if it is a Windows 8 issue or what.

Thanks for any insight.

Update-CsAddressBook does not work

Hello,
I delegate the right to administration Lync server for for Mr.X.
He has:
  • Member of LocalAdmin right to every Lync server

Trying to use ABSConfig to exclude some users from the address book

$

I am attempting to use the ABSConfig tool from the Resource Kit for Lync 2010 Enterprise Edition (Windows Server 2008 R2) and keep getting a "Mismatch backend database schema" error.  If I click OK to the error, I then am brought into the configuration tool, but only to view.  I cannot change any settings.

I've already had our SQL DBA give the account I am using to log into the Lync server READ/WRITE access to the RTC, RTCAB, RTCAB1, and RTCDYN.  But still I get the error and then the tool comes up only in read mode.

What else needs to be done to successfully run the ABSConfig tool?

Using a specific AD attibute to filter in ABSConfig

$

I am trying to use the AD Attribute (it already exists in AD) of msExchHomeServer to filter that db since disabled users lose the value in this field.  But I am getting an error when I go to apply the filter.

************** Exception Text **************
System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
   at ABSConfig.MainForm.UpdateOccurances(String name)
   at ABSConfig.MainForm.ValidateAttrConfig(String filterValue, String adAttrName)
   at ABSConfig.MainForm.Save_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)
   at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e)
   at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent)

Sorry, that is not the whole message, but didn't want to paste too much.  I've just been cancelling but should I continue?

~~~~~~
Is this a case where, because it isn't linked to any particular field in the Lync db, it can't be used for filtering?  It is a valid field in AD.  Is there a way to add it to the list for the Lync db?
Lync Client Can't Download Address List and other problems
$
We're currently in the process of testing for a production Lync Server 2010 deployment and we're run into some problems. I've been digging around on the Internet and the Technet forums but can't find a solution to this problem.
Whenever someone logs in with the Lync Client, they are immediately presented with prompts for user credentials. No credentials work. When you cancel out, you can still chat, but there is an error that says the Address Book can't be downloaded. I've confirmed that the SSL certificate works, I've made sure the Kerberos Account is configured properly, I've reinstalled the Web Components, and I've tried numerous other solutions I've found for this issue. Nothing seems to fix the problem. When I try to run test-csaddressbookservice in the Management Shell, I get the following:
cmdlet Test-CsAddressBookService at command pipeline position 1
Updating user details from AD inc primary lync number
Hi there...
We are currently using Lync 2010 fully patched as of today.
Question:
I was told that the primary number must be entered manually (or with powershell) into the Lync server, that it cannot get these details from AD.
It is only able to get extra details like mobile or other numbers but not the primary land line assigned to the user.
Seems like a painful way to exist........makes management more difficult....less efficient... multiple points of failure.....over complicated.........etc etc
