Lync Client Search - Shows Non Lync Enabled Users

$

What is normal behavior - out of the box - for Lync 2010 and/or 2013 for the Lync Client search.  Is it to return all AD objects (or all GAL objects?) regardless if they are Lync enabled or not?  There is a bit of information here an there on this but thought I'd post my specific question to end my torture.

We are in the process of migrating users from 2010 to 2013 (backend) and we initially setup the msRTC-GroupingID to limit our search but with this migration we are planning to clear this attribute to allow a search to return all users and I notice that in doing so I see all objects reqardless if Lync enabled or not.  This is not so desirable but if it's the way it works then I will have accept and move on.  I read about using ABSconfig to alter this behavior but for some reason this won't even run for me ... crashes right away upon opening running from FE server so even if I now got it to work my trust is shot for using this.

Thanks all ...

Phone numbers aren't displaying correctly

$

Hello everyone,

we've got the problem that contact names from internal colleagues aren't displaying when they are calling from external (via mobile phone) - only the telephone number is shown. After you accept the call, then the name will be resolved and you see who is calling.

But this is not happening all the time, sometimes the name of the colleague is shown before you accept the call.

Further information:

+ Mobile phone information are stored in AD (format E.164 -> example +49 (999) 99999 )

+ Lync Server 2010, OS Windows Server 2008 R2

+ Clients - Lync 2010 x64/ Lync 2013 x64

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening or what the problem is?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Hermann

Lync clients not receiving address book AD information, missing GalContacts.db and .db.idx files

Hi Experts,

I'm a new Jr. Sys admin and I've installed a Lync server to test it out.  The installation went off fairly well but now that I've added a couple of users I've run into a problem that I have been unable to find any documentation on. The users are not pulling any user information from the address book. I've seen lots of documentation suggesting to run Get-CsUserReplicatorConfiguration, Get-CsAddressBookConfigurationand then Update-CsAddressBook.  These processes go off without a hitch and the logs show the lync address book pulling information from AD.  Next, everyone suggests to delete the the GalContacts.db and GalContacts.db.idx files from the users profile directory and have the client auto-pull the address book information from the server. However, GalContacts.db and .idx but they do not exist  in my users' profile.  I feel like the problem is that there is a failure for the lync address book to send the information it recieves from active directory to the clients, but I don't have any idea how to fix it.  Here's some information that I thought might help anyone trying to help me...

Clients are able to communicate with one another, and can pull contact information from outlook (as well as busy/available status) but cannot search for each other in search field

In IIS manager, the application poos list has plenty of "CS****AppPool" entries but is missing all "LS******AppPool" entries... i'm not sure what this means

I do not have an AD CA installed, we use certificates signed by godaddy, I used a wildcard *.pfx cert and an intermediate certificate because of the cert being a  godaddy cert

If you guys need any other information i could really use the help.  I apologize if any of my terminology is used incorrectly.  Thanks!

How to delete "Lync Contacts" in Outlook 2013?

$

Hi,

I'm using Lync 2013 and outlook 2013, the backend system is Exchange Server 2013 and Lync Server 2010.

I found that in Outlook 2013 People tab, there's a "Lync Contacts" folder under "My Contacts", which is created by Lync 2010 client enabled by option "Save my Lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on Exchange", and when I want to delete any contact under "Lync Contacts", a pop-up windows displayed and said: you cannot make changes to contents of this read-only folder.

I reinstalled Lync 2010 client back, and check the option "Save my Lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on Exchange" is not selected.

So, anyone can tell me how to delete the "Lync Contacts"?

OCS 2007 r2 new users are unable to sign in Help!!!

a little background: we had an issue with our domain controller and had to flash a backup image that we took 2 weeks prior. after we got everything setup correctly again and added users that were not there when we took the image backup. it all seemed fine, until we had to add some new hires. now when I add new users and configure them correctly with in OCS and active directory the user cannot sign in. from what I have read it could be a replication error, but when I try to force replication it fails. as we rely on this service for our business it is very frustrating. I have ran the validation tool and this is what I get.

For example, if the maximum hop value is 2,   then it is likely that this error was generated by a server that is 1   (immediate target) or 2 hops away. If the target server supplied and the home   server for the user are different check the trust relationship between them.   If the target server is an access edge server then check whether the internal   supported domain list contains the domain of this user. In addition, check   the forest-level domain supported list and make sure the user domain is   present. Lync 2010 - Unable to search other contact lists

$

I have a user who seems to be configured the same as others in his dept.

When searching for contacts in Lync, he is only pulling up contacts from the GAL.

He has added his own contact list called "TCP Contact List". Anyone on that contact list is not showing up in Lync's search. Other clients with the same setup is able to search the contact list.

I have already tried steps of the cmdlet Update-CsAddressBook. Setting the client's reg.reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator /v GalDownloadInitialDelay /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Then deleting the client's two GAL files. Opening/closing Lync.

Still, he is able to search the GAL, but not his other contact list.

Please any assistance would be appreciated.

Lync 2013 Hosting pack tenant meet url returns 404

Hi all,

I have a 2 problems in the Hosting pack:

1. Meet urls are correctly generated for tenants (IE https://meet.hoster.com/tenantdomain/user/confID) but they return a 404 when browsing to the meeting from a browser

2. Office web apps presentations just never work. It just says that it cannot connect to the presentation server.

For problem 1, what I tried was:

1. Set Set-Cssimpleconfiguration -UseBackendDatabase $True -Tenant <TenantID>

2. Tried repairing the IIS Rewrite module as per http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/e1fbdaa9-0961-4171-ab51-91b8d37432de/action?threadDisplayName=lync-meetings-not-available-404-for-every-url

3. Made sure all my domain maps are correct

4. All certs seem 100% fine.

What is weird is:

https://dialin.hoster.com/dialin - works
https://meet.hoster.com/meet - works (Default cannot join the meeting page)
https://meet.hoster.com/tenantdomain/tenantuser/confid - Does not work

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Lync does not display alphabetically Polish characters

Hello,

I have a problem

in the company, we have implemented Lync 2013

in contacts list all the contacts are displayed alphabetically with the exception of contacts that contain Polish characters.

contacts with Polish characters get on the end of the list of contacts. what could be the cause? how to solve this problem?

example -

last name starting with the letter C should be on the list of contacts for the letter C before the letter D.
and unfortunately automatically goes to the contacts and displays the last letter of the alphabet

Lync 2010 Phone number normalization

$

Hi,

We're having a bit of trouble with lync / phone normalization and or phone numbers in general.

Lync is importing phone numbers from active directory, which is fine, we'd also like to be able to use the 'Save my lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on exchange server' as this allows activesync users to import the entire active directory (or at least lync enabled AD) list of users / phone numbers to their mobile.

The trouble is the phone format.

In AD we have uk telephone numbers in the following format: +44 (0)1273 123456

On lync contact cards this shows as: +4401273123456

and so in phones it appears the same, the trouble is the number needs to be +44 OR 0 at the beginning, having both makes it unusable.

So i thought that's fine, if lync sees the number as +4401273123456 i can apply a rule to it to remove the first 4 digits (+440) and prefix +44, i've tried this in the wizard under voice routing, and/or under Company_Phone_number_Normalization_rules.txt using:

^\+440(\d{10})$

+44$1

this doesn't produce the desired effect. The gui suggests it should with this number: +4401273123456 produce +441273123456, however once that normalization is applied and Cs-UpdateAddressBook is applied (and the required wait 5 minutes, remove galcontacts files from the client and force them to update address book) the contact card instead simply shows the number as: +44 (0)1273 123456

I really need assistance with this as i can't seem to solve it and have spent a few days doing it.

LYNC 2013 to Outlook Contact Lists

We have a LYNC 2013 backend and rolling out LYNC 2013 clients.  What is happening is in Outlook many users have multiple contact lists and only the corporate contact list seems to be searchable within the Lync client, while other users are able to search any of their contacts and in any list.  Lastly, the LYNC contacts folder populates with contacts for some and not for others.  What can be checked for that?

Updating user details from AD inc primary lync number

Hi there...

We are currently using Lync 2010 fully patched as of today.

Question:

I was told that the primary number must be entered manually (or with powershell) into the Lync server, that it cannot get these details from AD.

It is only able to get extra details like mobile or other numbers but not the primary land line assigned to the user.

Seems like a painful way to exist........makes management more difficult....less efficient... multiple points of failure.....over complicated.........etc etc
